Karakin (Arabic: كاراكين) (Codename: Rapide) is the 5th playable map for BATTLEGROUNDS, Karakin is a 2x2km island off the coast of North Africa. Karakin is the first map where BATTLEGROUNDS implemented a Black Zone, where the layout changes every match.
Summary
Instead of the normal 100 player battles that takes place on other islands, this island only features 64 players. It’s an arid, rocky environment that provides wide-open terrain and challenging engagements. It’s small, fast, and dangerous: Expect the tension of Miramar combined with the pace of Sanhok.
Designing the Black Zone came with a lot of technical challenges, Karakin buildings compared to buildings on other maps. Each building has a demolished version of itself so PUBG Corp had to develop new procedures and pipelines in order to create all this new art. Tools from Maya and Houdini let them create the destroyed shells of the buildings a lot faster. The next challenge were the breach walls because breachable walls were tough visually to design since PUBG is based in realism so they didn't want to have a big cartoony space in the wall so they designed it in a way to balance realism though keeping it where you knew and can distinguish what walls are breakable. The last challenge was bullet penetration, this feature isn't everywhere due to the fact that it's quite an overpowered feature. PUBG Corp designed special walls that look like drywall so you can easily know that you can shoot through them. This gives the player the ability to hear other players that you wouldn't normally hear or sneak around while you get brief glimpses of where the enemy is.
Smuggler tunnels are a good way for a stealthy approach or getting through mountain areas that you don't want to be exposed in. Though not all the bunkers are going to lead to tunnels and not all the tunnels connect to each other. You can enter these tunnels by using the bunkers and blowing up the walls with Sticky Bombs.
