The Tommy Gun is a submachine gun type weapon in BATTLEGROUNDS.

Nicknamed "The Chicago Typewriter," The Thompson submachine gun is an American submachine gun, invented by John T. Thompson in 1918, that became infamous during the prohibition era. It was a common sight in the media of the time, being used by both law enforcement officers and criminals. Once in extensive use among US troops during WWII, as well as British forces supplied by the US Army,[1] this weapon now sees use for mowing down other players unfortunate enough to be caught in its line of fire.

This weapon was introduced in the Alpha 2 Test of 2016. As of the September Update of 2017 the weapon was removed from air drops, it now spawns as loot on the island.

Summary

Firing the slow but hard-hitting .45 ACP cartridge, this vintage submachine gun deals the most damage out of all the SMGs, however the inability of this gun to attach sights, coupled with its relatively strong recoil makes it a challenge to use, even in close quarters combat. Extended magazines are highly recommended as the reload time remains unchanged, while magazine capacity is almost doubled.

Infinite ammo with trench coat on.

Trivia

  • The Thompson featured in this game is the M1928A1 model by default. Attaching a foregrip turns it into the earlier M1928 model.
  • In game the Tommy Gun is incorrectly depicted as having a closed bolt.
  • Prior to it being removed from air drops, the Tommy Gun could be found in them with a foregrip and a 100 round drum magazine attached by default, as well as its inventory model featuring a raised Lyman rear sight. While 100 round C-type drum magazines for the Thompson do exist, PUBG used the model of the 50 round L-type drum magazine before the patch that removed this weapon from air drops also altered its extended capacity to 50 rounds.
  • The weapon's description is a reference to movies involving Mafia-style gangsters, with this gun featured in them whose wielders never seemed to have to reload.
