The Karabiner 98 Kurz (Kar98k) is a classic bolt-action rifle weapon in BATTLEGROUNDS.

The Karabiner 98 Kurz is the shortened derivative of the Mauser 98 chambered in 7.92x57mm Mauser. Adopted by the German Wehrmacht in 1935, it is considered to be the pinnacle of bolt action design of that era. The Mauser action has been nearly universally copied in every bolt action rifle since its introduction.

Summary

The Kar98k is highly sought after because of its ability to deal fatal damage against players wearing level 2 helmets, with only level 3 helmets able to protect their wearers from one shot kills assuming they are at more than 85% health. Because of this, it is a very good weapon for long-range engagements without having the risk of going to airdrops for the other bolt-action sniper rifles. Its main drawbacks are its slow reload time when reloading, with full reloads only being somewhat faster than reloading bullets individually, and its rather slow bullet velocity, making it more challenging to engage distant enemies, particularly if they are on the move.

The Kar98k will deal maximum damage out to 100 meters after which point damage will decrease, reaching its minimum at 485 meters.

Trivia

  • The Kar98k is modelled after the real weapon of the same name, albeit with a custom picatinny rail just behind the tangent leaf sight for mounting optics.
  • The Kar98k is currently the only weapon to feature more than one method of reloading, with individual rounds being loaded when not empty, and a 5-round stripper clip being used otherwise.
  • In reality, the Kar98k is chambered for 7.92mm ammunition but uses 7.62mm rounds in-game to simplify gameplay.
